Shell needed a fast, focused redesign of the Go+ Rewards app to unify fuel types (Petrol, Diesel, EV, Hydrogen) in a single experience, increase app retention, and meet rising user expectations around sustainability and reward visibility.
I was brought in as the Lead Product Designer to own the design process and drive the delivery of a prototype within just 2 weeks.
As the Senior Product Designer, I led 2 junior designers while collaborating daily with:
Product Owner, to align on business objectives.
Software Engineer, to validate feasibility.
User Researcher, to embed research into the process.
Mentoring & Task Delegation
Managed workload and focus areas for junior designers, conducted daily design critiques, and ensured their efforts were tied to project goals.
Team Rituals
Led daily design stand-ups and afternoon critiques to maintain high design velocity and shared ownership.
Stakeholder Facilitation
Ran cross-functional workshops using Figma Jam to synthesise findings, align on scope, and maintain constant momentum.
Design System Stewardship
Ensured 100% compliance with the Shell Design System—every component used was implementation-ready.
Prioritised Core Value Delivery
Worked with the Product Owner to strip down onboarding and home screen complexity to only what was essential—helping users get value quickly.
Internal Testing & Iteration
In the absence of external validation, I facilitated moderated tests with stakeholders from different backgrounds (e.g., PhD-level, IT managers) to uncover issues early.
Design Principles in Action
Applied Gestalt principles to improve hierarchy and grouping in the UI, reducing visual noise and making the interface more navigable.
Enabled Designer Autonomy
Created a structured but flexible workflow for junior designers, enabling them to take ownership of specific UI flows while ensuring alignment with broader project goals.
Delivered a 100% design-system-compliant prototype in under 2 weeks.
All business requirements were met and signed off by stakeholders.
The proposal was escalated to higher-level leadership for future implementation consideration.
Internal usability testing validated key UX improvements to onboarding and layout.
Built and nurtured a high-functioning micro-team through hands-on design leadership.
Improved junior team performance and confidence through active coaching, resulting in independent delivery of critical UI components under tight deadlines.
Delivered a polished, interactive prototype built entirely in Figma using Shell’s Design System components—ensuring visual consistency, responsive behaviour, and immediate development feasibility. The design was accompanied by clear annotations and flows, making it implementation-ready for engineering teams.
